On Saturday, August 15th, 2026 the Seaside Public Library will welcome Ashland based author Sue DeMarinis for a talk on their historical fiction book, "The Station Master’s Wife." This event will take place at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room and there will be a time afterwards for a Q&A and to purchase a copy of the book. "The Station Master’s Wife" is a historical fiction novel set from the 1860s through the 1920s as the Transcontinental Railroad brought scandals with it as it moved West. Set in a small isolated Southern Oregon town, the SFO Bay area and the Oregon Coast, the book follows Alice, a daughter of a prominent pioneer family, as she goes through changes and events never expected and meets a variety of unsavory characters who come through on the rails. Author S. K. DeMarinis, a retired chiropractor after 30 years of practice, took up writing novels to broaden her passion for storytelling. The Station Master’s Wife, her second novel, weaves true stories and railroad characters to bring the reader inside history. Sue investigated this period of the 19th century by delving into old newspapers, vintage photos, documents, and digital encyclopedia references. Her 1-hour talk includes historic photos of actual pioneers and places. This event made possible by the generous support of the Seaside Library Friends & Foundation.
